In the article How Strong Women Like Amy Coney Barrett Submit To Their Husbands With Joy which appeared today in The Federalist, a guy named Matthew Cochran tells us all about why female submission is not only in teaching with scripture, BUT GOOD FOR US AS LEADERS.
My other favorite part of this article is when, while defending his reading of scripture against arguments suggesting that women "submitting" to their husbands leads to domestic abuse, he writes: "The possibility that authority may be abused does not negate that authority."
Sure. A few sentences later, he writes about the dangers of an absolutist approach to equality, which he calls "one of America's most prominent idols":
"When appealing to equality, context matters.
When we do seriously consider context, we find that equality is a useful tool that has served humanity well in some respects. Nevertheless, treating it as a moral absolute and forcing it into areas of life where it doesn’t belong transforms that servant into a brutal master."
This guy definitely strikes me as the type of guy who either has a dominatrix on speed dial or desperately needs one. There is nothing wrong with having a dominatrix on speed dial, folks.
Why am I putting myself through this? Dear Reader, I have no idea. Some days just hit you. The Kavanaugh hearings did it too. These conversations about Barrett and the ones we had about Kavanaugh just feel like two sides of the same coin to me, and I can't quite put my finger on why in an eloquent way right now. Just venting I suppose.
Great article about this from Chris Hedges (ex-NYT's reporter who was resigned after he was banned from talking about the War in Iraq).
